Sport and EDucation outside the classroom

Sports

Our students participate in a wide range of sports both in school and in the wider community.

We have school teams in the following sports, Touch, Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Tennis, Hockey and Summer Football.

We also participate in school based inter-school sporting events such as Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Sevens and Football.

Redwoodtown school also hosts the Wairau Inter-school Ki-o-rahi tournament in March annually.

Education Outside the Classroom

Teachers are encouraged to make full use of the school and community environment in their teaching programmes. Field trips to local areas of interest such as industries, parks, and streams are regular features of the school programme.

We also have a variety of camps for students at levels year four and up. The year four camp is an overnighter at Pine Valley. Year five and six generally have three day camps at Teapot Valley. The year seven and eight students utilise a variety of camp options each year, including Bridge Valley, Marlborough Sounds and Wellington as well as Rainbow Ski Area.

Senior students are selected for leadership programmes in with National Young Leaders Day in Christchurch and a leadership tramp and camp at Lake Rotoiti.
