At Redwoodtown School, our mathematics programme is aligned with the refreshed Aotearoa New Zealand Mathematics & Statistics Curriculum. We aim to develop confident, curious, and capable problem solvers who can apply mathematical thinking in real-world contexts.
For our Year 0–3 learners, we use Numicon, a hands-on, visual resource that supports the development of number sense and mathematical language through structured imagery and practical activities. In Years 4–8, we use PRIME Mathematics, a research-based programme that carefully sequences learning to build strong conceptual understanding, problem-solving strategies, and fluency.
Teachers use Numicon and PRIME to support and enhance their classroom programmes, tailoring their teaching to meet the needs of all learners. Across the school, we focus on building deep understanding, encouraging mathematical reasoning, and helping students develop the confidence to tackle challenging problems.
Our goal is for all learners to see themselves as mathematicians—ready to think, reason, and succeed.
